I was just watching this excert of John Pilger’s film ‘The War On Democracy’ which I watched in its entirety earlier this year and thought it would be worth sharing. If you find it interesting and would like to see the rest of it, you could obviously buy the DVD… OR watch the whole thing for free on Google Video! Its a great look at the US’ interference in latin American nations internal politics, usually through force whether directly or by proxy. A notable scene is one in which Pilger interviews an ex CIA director who admits to overthrowing democratic governments and says its fine if its in the national interest of the US…
There are also some interesitng sections looking at the changes Chavez has brought in for the poor in Venezuela which goes beyond the media rhetoric and hyperbole and has documentary evidence of how the poor are receiving better quality housing, health care, education as well as having the opportunity to vote in 8 national elections in 10 years… I don’t have that opportunity here in the UK, its every 5 yrs for me (although a PM can call an election any time he wants, its not at a fixed term as in the US). Anyway, check the video out and let me know what you think.
